Student Financial Planner (Maternity Leave)

Position Summary:


The ideal candidate profile for this position is someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast paced and changing environment; enjoys a challenge; possesses a strong customer service focus and a “can do” attitude; and, instinctively knows who his or her target audience is and how to effectively “speak” to that demographic.


Reporting to the Director of Finance, the incumbent is responsible for developing, negotiating and finalizing financial aid plans consistent with LaSalle College Vancouver’s policies and procedures and with Federal/Provincial regulations for awarding financial aid.


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Admissions team to provide outstanding service to prospective students and their families
  • Assist prospective students and their families to understand and plan for the cost of their education while studying at LaSalle College Vancouver
  • Develop, negotiate and finalize financial aid plans consistent with LaSalle College Vancouver’s policies and procedures and Federal/Provincial regulations for awarding financial aid
  • Review the financial aid plan and the students’ and their families’ rights and responsibilities for each financial aid source
  • Assist with the completion of financial aid applications
  • Counsel students on all acceptances and other matters directly related to financial aid
  • Assign the appropriate financial aid amount(s) to a student and ensure that the financial aid is credited to the student’s account in a timely manner
  • Negotiate repayment plans
  • Review and maintain student financial aid accounts to ensure appropriate financial aid planning and the collection of outstanding payments
  • Complete and/or maintain student files and related documentation, certify loan applications, etc., as it pertains to financial aid
  • Work with new, continuing and re-entry students and their families to ensure the financial aid plan and/or financial aid re-plan continue to meet their needs
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ previous relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Federal/Provincial regulations for awarding financial aid
  • Experience in Higher Education would be an asset


  • Strong MS Office skills as well as exposure to comprehensive student information systems
  • Superior problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a range of populations
  • Effective team and partnering skills
  • Mathematical skills to a sufficient level to support budgeting, forecasting and working with numbers
