Hi, I go by the name of Sani. I was born in Montreal and I've lived in the same house my whole life. I was raised by Jamaican descent parents and grew up very closely with my younger brother and sister. Unfortunately, I wasn't initially the oldest of my siblings. My older brother Rumoi passed away at a very young age due to cancer, before I was even born, when my parents had him in Jamaica. The death of my older brother caused a lot of trauma and sadness between my parents, which lead them to flee Jamaica and go explore another city for a change of scenery. They ended up in New York, where they conceived me, but didn't have the sufficient funds to pay for my birth in an American hospital, since my mom was still not working due to depression and my father was only selling t-shirts out of the trunk of his car. So they changed locations once more, crossed the border and ended up in Montreal while my mother was 8 moths pregnant with me. I was born a month later and they finally got their second child, and this time around he was fully healthy. Due to my older brother's death, growing up, my mom and I have always had this special relationship. She's always been super overprotective of me and created such a tight bond between each other at such a young age. Her first job in Montreal was at Buffalo Jeans and ever since then my mother has always had a tendency to dress me up in the latest trends in the fashion industry. I've always been keen to looking good and sharp whenever I leave the house because of my mother's habits that she integrated in my life at such a young age. My colours always had to be properly coordinated or else I couldn't leave the house. Ever since then I've always been so obsessed with fashion and I've always been interested in starting my own brand. During the summer, I work with her at a wholesaler called NTD Apparel, where she is one of the main buyers there, and she's constantly teaching me new things about the industry. My experience there, combined with my creative group of friends, knowledge about the industry, and great sense of style, is what makes me believe that I can be a significant addition to any company's creative team, but most importantly push my own brand IRIE to the next level in the upcoming years.
