Paris Bistrot

The Paris Bistrot proposal is the creation of a contemporary French restaurant, keeping traditional references and mixing contemporary design and shapes. For that, I though in a semi-open and intimate environment, using huge glass windows, with the intention of making the pedestrians interested in what is happening inside, inviting them to enter the restaurant. On the right side, there is a bar and a coat closet. On the left side we have the main dinning area, the lounge area and the bathrooms. In the middle I put the wine cellar, around the column. In the back we have the kitchen, the garbage room, the chef’s office and the staff’s bathroom. Upstairs there is a mezzanine with a few tables and four boots. We also have a VIP area on the top of the entrance door linked by a glass bridge. In the bar’s rear wall I put bricks to remind the traditional French bistros. Here there is a space just to drink and eat quick snacks. As focal point, we have the wine cellar and the round stairs, both made with glass. In the middle of the wine cellar we have a stair, in the opposite direction to the main one. So, the sommelier can climb the stair to take the choose bottle. The wine cellar can be accessed from the top and from the bottom. The main stair is made of glass and cooper painted stainless steel. In the dining area, I chose square tables, so we avoid wasting space and we can accommodate the costumers better. In front of this area, I designed a lounge area, for who is looking for a more comfortable spot to just drink and talk. In the upstairs bathroom’s wall, I put three fake windows, with mirrors in the back. In the boots wall I designed mansards windows, very traditional in France, like in the Versailles Palace. On the ceiling, above the main dinning area, I designed a wire mesh curves, to accommodate the rosettes and the lighting. In the pathway, I designed several tables with streetlights to create a French atmosphere. To hide the kitchen door and the working station, I put a decorative wall, like a room divider. In the mezzanine I choose a “tufted” tile that match the boots style. The wallpaper chooses has damask motives. The lighting for the dining area choose isn’t traditional for this kind of restaurant, it’s more modern. On this wall I choose a different wallpaper, also with damask motives, to evoke the French golden years. the color scheme choose: brown, green, red and grey. Since the idea is to create a French contemporary restaurant with sophisticated cuisine, I proposed contemporary furniture (chairs and stools) mixed with traditional bistro furniture (tables) to come forward the French bistro approach desire. To escape from the normal working station, I put an armoire on it. For the floor, in the dining area I preferred engineering wood than tile, because it’s more usual in the French architecture than tiles and also it seems more sophisticated, vintage.
