(un)Safe Home

(un)Safe Home is a narrative book based on the tragedy that happened in a Safe Home in Guatemala on March 8th, 2017. The tragedy ended with 41 girls dead, few survivors, several trials of government officials, and a hard investigation on all the shelters on the country. (un)Safe Home has a main objective to serve as a wakeup call for Guatemalans to protect each other and change their conformist attitudes. The name “(un)Safe Home” represents not only the way in which these girls died but also how they have become a symbol of resistance against the government and give hope to children who are still under the care of the State.  The style of the book was inspired on police investigation files and scientific field journals. The illustration style and fonts used resemble teenage doodles and handwriting to remind the reader that all the victims were children. The colour scheme consists on light blue, representing the Guatemalan flag; pink and purple, representing the girls. This is an online book as the story is still developing and it will be updated quarterly.
