This conceptual poster series on addiction was designed to draw troubled audiences in with its dark, hopeless aura only to arm them with information on where to find help. A conscious decision was made to use black paint mixed with wine in all the posters. The resulting interaction of the thick paint with the rouge from the wine impart a sense of uncleanliness. The pieces are designed to both draw spectators in at a glance and take them to a place of darkness. The challenge lay in creating a set of posters which would compliment each other, yet retain their power as individual pieces. Alone each piece caries a sense of hopelessness, but as a set the inescapable nature of addiction is compounded in increasing crescendos ending in the utter consumption of the all parts of the canvas, and too the lives those suffering from addiction. A life-line is found at the bottom of every poster to connect to bc211: a hotline in the British Columbia region offering services to a wide range of addiction related issues and more.
