Visual Identity

In the centre of my moodboard lays the element that is the most important, the inspiring muse who has been broken but repaired with the Japanese method called Kintsugi by putting the pieces back together using powdered gold. She regains her former integrity by drawing strength and wisdom from the elements that surround her. In other words, her broken self has been mended to preserve who she really is. Interestingly, this time around, her mended self confers to her an even more refined identity. Behind this image there is a mercury sulfide rock. This conjures up a notion in alchemy which contends that gold was made from a combination of the most subtle, and brightest mercury with a little clear, red sulphur. The novel idea being conveyed here is that the combination of mercury and sulphur, despite both being imperfect bodies, could be transformed into gold by removing impurities and gradually extracting the emerging perfect elements. To explain further, At the upper left corner, theres a fragment of the famous Michelangelo painting called ‘The Creation of Adam’. Unlike the original painting, God’s and Adam’s fingers are actually touching and in the background on the left side there is an image of Piet Mondrian Composition 6; the origin of this image is a facade that changed while evolving from reality to an abstract motive. It shows an structured surface, that find its balance through the vertical and horizontal lines, with a few curves to create fullness. I have also added a collage from Sterling Ruby. On the right side, I added elements from nature such as the moon, a tree and a falcon bird. The full moon signifies renewal. The moon, from our perspective, is reborn every single month; it moves toward a full moon through the lunar cycle . The tree is at the top of the nature world because it transforms the earth from a lifeless mass into an environment capable of supporting other forms of life such as animals and humans. Lastly, there is the light emanating from the tree which signifies positivity, peace, justice and safety.
