Face Cards Project

The face cards project is about creating a new visual expression for a mini set of playing cards based on the idea of pirates. Pirates are keen on danger, adventure and gambling, which reflects the characteristics of playing cards. On the front side, four different pirate figures symbolize the Jack, Queen, King, and Joker cards. Each suit of cards has its own color palette to distinguish from the others. To keep design consistency, all characters of 4 suits are facing the right side and include iconic pirate elements, such as pirate costumes, weapons, and a chopped arm. As for the Joker, the character is a parrot holding a black flag with a wooden leg because parrots are one of the most recognizable animals in the fantasy pirate world. On the back side, the icons are simply composed of a boat anchor and rudder shape, which are placed together as a pattern. The ocean blue color and pattern on the back extends the pirate theme and keeps the concept of the whole project consistent.
