The Bar

We begin to develop our own design style when we stop following the rules or current trends. As a designer, I like to explore and push the limits by drawing inspiration from other mediums and applying a new way of thinking to them. This concept for a new bar is intended to be located in ‘The Stand’ at Flemington Racecourse where there is an overarching concept of ‘Picture Perfect’ throughout the entire building. Whilst ‘The Bar’ space itself was heavily influenced by this concept, it also became a space for experimental design, utilising mediums I hadn’t previously explored. As the space in which ‘The Bar’ is located is quite large, there have been numerous installation/interactive elements implemented within them. Along with the visualisations of the space, I find physically playing with and modelling the tactile properties within the design help to fully bring the concept to life. By creating a 1:1 model of the installation I’ve allowed the individual to have a glimpse into the atmosphere and aesthetic qualities of the space. As the design for ‘The Bar’ is set during the Spring Racing Carnival, I was inspired by the various colours worn, the culture and equestrian elements that is often seen at these events. Along with these elements, there is also evidence of the floristry that would be flourishing during that time of year.
