Whose Land is This?

There is an ongoing battle about land ownership between the Canadian government and Indigenous people. The Indigenous believe that the land we now call Canada has been taken away from them. They have their own distinct culture and heritage integrated with the land. On the other hand, the Canadian government took over the land and exploited Indigenous people. Ultimately, the government addresses the problem by making treaties to form the political and moral foundation of the relationship between Canada and the Indigenous people in exchange for the damages that have been done. Most of these arrangements define exchanges where, in return for additional compensation and commitments, Indigenous people agree to share some of their rights to their ancestral lands.

The design is meant

The design is meant to look like a newspaper; hence, the infographic is printed as a multi-folded pamphlet and uses bold headlines. The back of the infographic leads the user on a scavenger hunt around UBC, as it is a location that is still under the leasehold between the government and Indigenous. UBC lands on the traditional ancestral unceded land owned by Musqueam Indian Band, a First Nations band government in BC province of Canada. By visiting the sites and collecting stickers, people can redeem an educational tour at the Museum of Anthropology.
