Tales From The Blade : Book Jackets

Tales from the blade is a series of 3 non-fiction books that tell stories of Japan’s iconic warriors: the warlord (Oda Nobunaga), the samurai (Minamoto Yoshitsune), and the ninja (Shinobi). The cover designs are inspired by traditional Japanese picture scrolls called emakimono, created with a modern twist. The covers take a more minimalistic approach by mainly using typography rather than illustration. An ink brush style typeface is paired with the warrior’s signature weapons dripping ink onto the page. This depicts the idea of the warriors leaving their mark on history.
