Trans4Nation: Break the Cis-Tem

Trans4Nation is a local non-profit organization promoting and supporting the many LGBTQIA+ communities in Vancouver, British Columbia. The organization needed marketing materials for an upcoming campaign project called “Break The Cis-Tem”. The task was to create a strong eye-catching graphic that can be used as the anchor for multiple avenues such as a website, social media graphics, apparel, and print. The main idea was to communicate that a human is a human, no matter gender, race, or inabilities, therefore, the design of a collaged face was made.

Campaign Poster Design

The overall design was inspired by the Dada movement and the current digital brutalism movement where avant-garde and edgy pieces are created in order to create emotional and artistic freedom. The dominant colours used for the multimedia graphic represent the transgender community, in homage to American trans woman, Monica Helms, who designed the transgender pride flag, while the yellow, which abrupt the design system, represents the break from the system in stereotypical gender.
