Modern Antiquity

Created during my second year at LaSalle College, ‘Modern Antiquity’ is a graphic project that sources inspiration from the ancient Japanese art of ORIGAMI. It has always been a subject of fascination to me the way that the Japanese were able to modulate such a complex art form through a simple paper medium. It brought up the idea that fabric could be a far more malleable canvas for showcasing the ingenuity of the origami technique to the modern world. This journey started with an elaborate research on how Japanese heritage has influenced and curated designs being traditionally used in western Haute Couture and it ended with experimental testing on a variety of fabrics that could mimic the sheen and folding qualities of the original paper origami. I may sincerely conclude that this project can not only be brought to life but also holds the ability to innovate the future of fashion design.
