Biografía

Being raised surrounded by popular sci-fi media and electronic music, Lou’s work sees into a future of extravagance and individuality. A history of traditional artwork, garment design and construction led to a Bachelor of Design Arts majoring in Fashion and Costume Design and sub-majoring in Visual Arts at LCI Melbourne. The fusion of art with fashion is consistent, with garments not restricted to mainstream trends, rather they delve into the context of costume. After completing an internship with costume designer Rhiannon Irving working on the Melbourne Operas production of Otello, the valuable costume construction skills learnt saw garments fit for performance. This interest in storytelling began whilst working on set of feature film “Rock Sugar”, igniting a fascination of creating pieces tailored to a variety of different performance contexts. The name “Miss Marie” encompasses all of her works, as illustration has played an important part in her development as an overall creative. These illustrations are mostly created using a blend of traditional mediums and digital scanning, editing and painting. A key opportunity for her conceptual designs has been involvement in VAMFF runways in 2018 and 2019, working in the themes “Electric Dreams” and “Chrysalis”. When constructing garments, Lou primarily explores creating unique structures and textures with synthetic materials. Her graduate collection features pieces drawing inspiration from sci-fi media and synthwave music. Some pieces in this collection such as the vinyl neckpieces are the versatile garments that in the future will ideally be incorporated into a small startup collection. Versatile statement pieces are her focus, and she aims to enhance the wardrobes of many unique individuals and performers.
