Homogenized

This piece is inspired by city life and the urban people I see around me. It demands a certain sense of distance but still shows gentleness and playfulness. The whole piece is overall toned in white. It is mainly made from Tyvek, which is a dense polyethylene fabric. It is comprised of hundreds of small diamond and triangle-shaped fabric, randomly dyed with fluorescent colors. I used these shapes to express defensiveness and alienation. I randomly strung zip ties, thin plastic pieces and cellophane with the Tyvek onto strong fishing line. These elements are found in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I deliberately used all kinds of plastic products that are readily available and all around us. They represent individuals with different hardness and transparency. They are different but slightly the same. All in all, this work represents several individuals and one whole. The difference is almost imperceptible.
