Upcycle Magazine

Upcycle Magazine is a quarterly publication for young adults on ways to repurpose old furniture and transform it into something new – a source for the creative who cares for the environment. The magazine is directed to young adults who are interested in the crafting world. The design challenge was to create a set of covers and spreads that would show a modern spin on upcycling. Upcycling: reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of a higher quality or value than the original. The typography combines a hand-written font overlaid on a simple font to blend multiple periods and ideas in a unique way to mimic what upcycling is. Muted colors with warm tones were chosen to create a feeling comfort associated with the home. Photographs of a home setting further reinforce this meditative feeling while also illustrating how available these projects are to first time crafters.
