Ruffles Project

With the idea of ruffles, we were given the task to create a garment. My inspiration was line art, which is an art form that consists of creating shapes with the accumulation of lines and paying with their direction. This was translated into a dress, which with the contrast of white fabric and the black overlock finishing, the layering of the ruffles gave the dress this illusion of optical line art

Cut - Out

Cut-out is a technique that consist in creating holes in garments that later create a pattern or design on a textile. This technique can be done in different ways and can be found in a variety of garments. The idea of making holes in a piece led me to create a design that interacted with the light that would pass by the holes of the garments. Bucket hats are very predominant in todays society and are now considered a very fashionable item. With the historical background of bucket hats which originally were what fisherman would use, I decided to use this item for applying the cut-out technique. To play with the contrast of old and new I design a pattern which was would really allow the light to come though the piece and to update a bucket hat I decided to create it in a contemporary fabric such as synthetic leather.

Optical Illusion

The concept behind this piece are sailors, after purchasing this fabric the contrast of the navy and white stripes reminded me of the typical sailor outfits. Contrasting this idea with the use of optical illusion of the stripes I created different gatherings in some just showing the navy and others the white. This way creating a garment combing both ideas.

3-D Pattern Alteration

The concept behind this garment is snow-globes. As the idea of the incorporation of a 3d shape was announced the shape of a heart was made placing 2 diamond shapes. Playing with the transparency and dotted fabric this was later suitable to create two 3d shapes that will later be filled with little white puff balls that resembled the filling of a snow globe. The idea of the white of the snow during the winter and the purity and easiness of the time, was translated into shapes and made into a fitted skirt until hips line and longer and loose till the floor.
