The project is creating a couples’ therapy center, with the focus on the importance of couples’ relationship quality and family structures. The aim is to design a place which is about blocking out the world and connecting with nature and each other. It should also provide overnight spaces for 40-50 couples who are coming from afar. Miraval Life intends to use various spiritual methods such as meditation, yoga, mindfulness, art, music, and exercise to help people to escape from the stressful urban life and re-establish themselves. Thus, the wounds created in their relationship can be healed. /Design Concept: The primary concept of this project came from YIN-YANG symbols which is a concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. Yin is the receptive and Yang the active principle, seen in all forms of change and difference such as the annual cycle (winter and summer), the landscape (north-facing shade and south-facing brightness), sexual coupling (female and male), the formation of both men and women as characters and sociopolitical history (disorder and order). To contemplate the concept of dualism, the project was designed by the concept of the yin yang symbol in two separate buildings which are located in the middle of the site and completing each other. The right side building includes healing and apart of the community area, and the other one includes stay pods and the rest of the community needed. Soft movement and curve lines can give the guest the sense of floating in the space and using symmetrical geometry are to resemble the unity of 2 persons with love and affection.
Location: 2 Jonai, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, Japan
