Hospitality Design - Mykonos Greek Restaurant

The Hospitality Design for the Interior Design program spanned the course of 1 quarter, a period of 3 months. The proposed project was a casual Greek restaurant with full-table service and multiple dining room based on a given floor plan located in Olympic Village – a neighborhood of Vancouver chosen due to the sea view, easy access to public transportation, available parking space, the mix of residential, commercial and retail spaces and the variety of pubs and restaurants already established in the neighborhood. The design style is Modern Mediterranean. Mykonos restaurant came to life and it was designed to accommodate all kinds of public but especially the young crowd that search not only for good food, but trendy cocktails and a laid-back atmosphere achieved by a thoughtful design. The design consists of a central wine cellar that is a focal point of project, inspired by the light blue sea and bright sky of Greece, it is a rounded structure of blue glass place in the middle of the restaurant, in front of the entrance. This wine cellar is surrounded by a semi-circular bar and lounge, ideal for drinks during the happy-hour and to notice and get noticed. The booths inside vaulted structures are inspired by arches of Greek Architecture and the organic shape suspended wood ceiling houses a greenery – along with the blue ceiling above gives the impression of an outdoor area by the beach with its infinity sky. The whole idea behind Mykonos design is – no matter how the weather is outside – inside the atmosphere is reminiscent of warm and sunny weather by the cost, translated by the materials choices, the lighting design project and the abundance of shades of blue.
