Los antepasados de los propietarios de ITZA eran miembros de algunas tribus mayas, por lo que han heredado la veneración del cacao, que era considerado un regalo de los dioses por sus familiares. Así, en ITZA el cacao se concibe como estrellas caídas del cielo.
