Designer Research

I designed this collection for the Fall/Winter season, 2017, ready to wear. The price range for my collection varies between 50-200 dollars, the reason why my price range is so low is to keep in tune with the essence of Mary Quant, I want to make my clothes accessible to my target market, which is from teenagers to young adults (16-25 y/o). What inspired me to design this collection is the youthfulness that Quant represents in her own designs. Fashion lately has become dark and morose, what with all the ripped clothing and black hoodies and beanies, especially in the winter, the colors that people wear become darker and darker the deeper into the winter we get. I wanted to make 2017’s winter colorful and keep the festive element alive during this holiday season, hence the bright colors in my color palette. Although they don’t necessarily match with the fabrics I’ve chosen, that’s because I couldn’t find the fabric I wanted in those colors. I will however keep the palette I have chosen to give whoever that is going through this project that these are the colors I want them to envision in their minds while looking at my collection. The current trends that correlate with this movement I found on WGSN were perfectly reviving the Mod subculture while being synonymous with the fashion of today. Using Mod’s classic A-line and boxed silhouettes with modern metallic prints and fabrics. My collection’s purpose is to do just that, but with a little more of the essence of the 60s than the 2000s.
